Pleasants School of Auctioneering sessions are held in an informal, people friendly atmosphere where individual attention is given.
Our class structure is informal, and we try to accommodate the individual needs of our students. Please inform us in advance of any physical or educational requirements, so we can plan accordingly.
Class size is always small. This gives students more time for questions and individual attention. If you plan to specialize in one field of auctioneering, we will endeavor to spend extra time with you in this area. Please understand that we are required to address all fields of the auction profession.
You will be provided with a manual, which is yours to keep and use for reference. A RULES AND REGULATIONS booklet issued by the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation will also be handed out along with copies of all applications needed to acquire your Virginia auctioneer's license. We will give detailed instruction on licensing, filling out applications, fees required, mailing addresses, and all other information needed.
Classes start informally with coffee and questions. During the course of instruction, the manual, RULES AND REGULATIONS booklet, videos, worksheets, handouts, and various instructors will be used. A number of field trips will be scheduled to acquaint students with a variety of types of auctions. Usually there is no homework unless a student requests additional worksheets or examples of paperwork.
During the course of instruction starting the first day, students are given drills and practice on bid calling. Tips on different aspects of bid calling will be given, and daily practice outside of class is recommended.
Daily classes begin at 8:30 AM, end at 5:00 PM, and are held in our home at Pleasant View Farm, which is 4 miles outside Mineral in Louisa County. Lunch is usually eaten at one of the local restaurants in Mineral. The directions and location of our first meeting are usually given over the phone prior to the first class. Scheduling for emergencies and class make-up can be arranged whenever there is an absence.
Always feel free to contact us concerning any questions or problems that arise. We look forward to meeting you and sharing with you our knowledge about the exciting world of auctioneering.
